Kung Fu Hustle/功夫

This movie was the traditonal Stephen Chow structure: how a little people became a well-known guy after many setbacks. The little people struggling at the bottom of the society once almost got lost, but finally stepped on the right way inspired by his own conscience. Many parts and diaglogues in the movie were imitated from some classic movies, which was the salute from the director to these old movies.

Two kung fu fighting parts were most impressive. The first, directed by Sammo Hung, was about the three kung fu masters defected the invasion of the Ax Gang to their slum, which was the style of classic kung fu movies. The second, directed by Yuen Woo-ping, was about the two assassins killed the three masters with a zither. Yuen visualized the magic legendary kung fu fight creatively, which was very enjoyful. Many predecessors starred in the movie and made the audience enjoy their performance again.

本片是周星驰传统的故事结构：小人物经过挫折，成长为大人物。这个在社会底层挣扎的小人物也曾经差点误入歧途，但终于还是在自己良知的感召下，步入正轨。本片多个场景和台词都是对经典老片的模仿，也是导演对这些老片的致敬。

让人印象最深的，莫过于两场比武的打斗部分。第一场是猪笼城寨的三大高手联手击退了斧头帮的进犯，这一场打斗由洪金宝设计，带有古典武侠片的风格；第二场是弹古筝的两大杀手击杀了三大高手，这一场打斗由袁和平，将中国古典小说中的功夫意境创造性地视觉化，非常享受。多位前辈明星在本片中重新出演，让观众重新看到他们的风采。
