The idea was attractive, but I have to say that the story, which looks like a subsidiary for some other two or three movies, is kind of broken, leaving more puzzles than solving them.
As pointed, the movie has the same major problem that all these kinds of films do: the human element is lacking. Well, it may has another problem: it fails to tell a good story of monsters. The audience just wait 90 minutes to watch that a Godzilla killed two Mutos before the movie is over. Come on, we paid to watch a story as the trailer implied, not a documentary about some animal fight.
It is kind of difficult for monster movies to balance the relation between monsters and human beings, well, "Pacific Rim" did an acceptable job, and the last "Godzilla" also tried a lot. Well, this one seemed not to make it.
