Actually this is a love story, a forbidden one. The horror part is kind of a dessert rather than the main dish.

Compared to its shining cast and costume and the set design, its story is not so impressive. The three lead actor/actresses all offer very impressive performance; the audience just enjoy the tragic gothic love story.
