In the timeline of the story, this movie was the prequel of the "Infernal Affairs I", telling the story of the leader of the gang (by Eric Tsang) and his counterpart the head of the police (by Anthony Wong) at the beginning of their career, when they had a mutual enemy (by Francis Ng).
