The directors, Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, did an excellent job: to extend the Avengers' story well (this movie could be regarded as Avengers 2.5) while introducing new characters like Spider-man and Black Panther. Luckily for the directors, the series of Marvel movies, including but not limited to Captain America 1 and 2, Avengers 1 and 2, have built strong base for them so they can concentrate on telling a new complete story as they did, in contrast to Zack Snyder in "Batman v Superman" who had to build a new world from nothing except for a single "Man of Steel".
A good foundation did not necessarily lead to success. Russo's did not simply copy-and-paste the comic story, instead, they changed the focus of the conflicts from civil rights to revenge: the four confronting sides, Captain America/Winter Soldier, Black Panther, Iron Man and Zemo, got their destinies intertwined because of their hatred and revenge. The innovated framework is better to make a good movie.
The supporting roles did good jobs too, especially the young Spider-man. He is talkative, but very skillful, smart and strong. Well, is his aunt too young? Also, the love story between Vision and Scarlet Witch seems to start: Vision found something disturbing and he can not explain and Witch found comfortable when both of them were together.
As usual, of course, Stan Lee showed up.
The visual effect of this movie is a shining point too. There are certainly some big explosions or flying, but the action parts are good also, sometimes you may even thought that you were watching an action movie rather than a superhero movie, which I think is what the fans want but they can't get from comic books.
