This is one of the masterpieces of Jet Li. The kung fu design is cool, but the fight in the ending climax is not as exciting as expected, as it put kind of emphasis on some mechanical instruments. The young actor Xie Miao's performance is good too. Yet, the headmasters of Hong Huahui by Damian Lau is too weak that he was soon killed by Ma Ning'er (by Ji Chunhua) the No. 1 villain.The movie still makes fun of some movies by Jet Li before. In the ending part, the little fat guy Fa Dahong's father came for him. When they introduced themselves to each other, the fat father said his name was "Fong Sai Yuk", and still remembered to tell his child to stay away from Hong Wending (by Xie Miao) and Hong Xiguan (by Jet Li), as he did not want his child to "not to be involved with gangs"!
李连杰的代表作之一，很酷的武打设计，但本片中最后高潮部分的打斗并不是很精彩，因为过分强调了机械的设计。谢苗的演出也很出彩。不过，由刘松仁演的那个红花会总舵主在片子中实在是太菜了，居然刚出场就被反一号马宁儿（计春华饰）给搞定了。
本片也不忘记恶搞一下以前李连杰拍过的片子：结尾的时候，小胖子方大洪的老爹来接他，互道姓名的时候，大腹便便的老爹自我介绍说叫“方世玉”。而且还不忘教育小孩子要远离洪文定（谢苗饰）和洪熙官（李连杰饰），原因居然是“不要跟黑社会混在一起”！
