Let The Bullets Fly/

The movie was really a splendid work in Chinese. It was long, but not tedious. Jiang Wen the director was very good at telling the story using camera language, he continued to create one small climax after another, mobilizing the mood of the audience till the end.

In my opinion, the movie could be interpreted as a version of China's modern history: how the Chinese Communist Party seized the power. In fact the history of modern China could be regarded as a combined development of traditional Chinese association-culture (such as mafia gangs) and immigrated thoughts (such as Marxism). Therefore, it is easy to understand that the various political forces appearing in the history all had kind of triad background. The so-called "people" or "public", was all the time the object made use of. Indeed, people, as a group of rabble, helped who won. History was not like what we expected (He who won the people would win the world); but was more like the opposite (He who won the world would win the people). Having used the people to overthrow the old regime, and dominating and exploiting the people after coming to power by the legal status, which is probably we see in the Mainland China since the foundation of the new regime.

Jiang Wen the director was really talented, but Ge You was more superior in acting.
