The Sorcerer and the White Snake/白蛇传说

The remaking of a traditional story needs to attract audience by innovation, which lies not only in filming technology, but also in digging out the new meaning of the old story in contemporary era to reflect the new understanding under the updated social values, which requires considerable skills.

The movie scored in visual effects, but failed in digging the new meaning of the Snake story. It failed to get rid of the traditional stereotype although it tried to add a monk role and changed the story's development a little. So, the movie was far less successful than Tsui Hark's "Ching Se".

对传统故事的翻拍，需要推陈出新才能吸引观众，即是不能仅仅依赖于电影技术的更新，而是需要在新的时代，挖掘出老故事的新含义，反映出在新的价值观下，对传统故事的新的理解，这需要相当的功力。

就电影技术来说，本片在视觉效果上做得比较好，但是在故事本身的挖掘方面，本片虽然在角色和故事推进上有所创新，但基本没有跳出传统故事的窠臼，从这个意义来说，本片比徐克的《青蛇》差得很远。
