This movie is based on one of my favorite novels. The original novel is most touching and make me tearing every time when I read it, it's short and powerful. Comparing to the original novel, the movie has to add something else (like the shopkeeper's dead daughter, the puppy, the life of other people, etc) into it and being unavoidably a little distracted, yet overall it is an excellent movie. Japanese are really good at training the subtle emotion deep inside people.
