The movie is very meaningful at current era: the end of a dynasty, which makes it politically metaphorical. Although the story covers only the rebellion-eliminating and SARS-like infectious diseases' treating, the Chinese audience can't help but compare the movie and current China, as there are so many similarities in both societies: tight fiscal budget, empty treasury, epidemics, worrisome military capability, prevailing corruption, faith-losing from the public to the policy-makers, etc.
This movie is a dangerous signal for policy-makers in China. And this is one of the rare history movies which have insightful thinking.
本片的题材在今天这个时点显得极有深意：王朝的末日。这使它具有极强的政治隐喻义。尽管影片本身的故事似乎只涉及平灭叛乱和治疗SARS一样的传染病，但中国观众会不由自主地把片中的中国和当前的中国进行比较，因为社会生活的每一个方面都非常相似：财政吃紧、国库空虚、疾病流行、军队战斗力令人担忧、腐败横行、民众对执政者丧失信心等等。
对于中国的决策者来说，这是一个危险的信号。这是中国大陆难得的思考比较深入的历史电影之一。
