Doctor Strange, who is a sorcerer, is not like the other superheros. He is more like a magician, and his power comes from magic, rather than some high-tech (like "Iron Man") or some variation due to Gamma-ray ("Hulk"). which makes his movie series could be different from other superheros and not so marvel-routinized. Benedict did a good job and this role seems very fitting for him.
Compared to "Suicide Squad" and "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice", Marvel, I have to say, does a better job than DC at systemizing the worlds of superheros. DC tries to catch up with its opponent, but I don't think they can make it in sort of Marvel-way, as they need someone to control the whole grand universal picture, but this "someone" is very hard to position.
It is said this movie was the opening for the third phase of Marvel's movie universes, Oh, they have a good start.
