This is the documentary-like file of the famous American scientist, J. Robert Oppenheimer, who had a very complicated and intertwined life of science research, atomic-bomb development, women and political issues. Christopher Nolan the director used his unique special structure to let the audience feel the struggling of the famous scientist.
You would enjoy the movie more if you understand some background information of the era, such as the penetration of communism.
You can compare this movie to its Chinese counterpart "Roaring Across the Horizon", and you may find the difference between the mainstream values of China and America, though the scientists themselves may be actually much alike.
